When it’s time to check-out of your cabin, there are always lots of rules to follow. Rules that either the homeowner or the property manager have set forth.

TIME: You have a set check-out time. You should do your very best to be out by that time. The housekeeper and the manager/homeowner need to be able to get into the cabin to make sure it’s ready for the next group.

TRASH: Yes, you have to take your trash with you. Why? Because if it is left there even for a few hours, bugs and critters can get to it. It is a City Ordinance that guests take their trash with them. So, don’t get mad at the manager for asking you to do this.

BEDDING: Please do not remake the beds. We know you think you are helping, but you are not. If you only use some beds and not others, but you make all of them, then the housekeeper has no idea which ones you used and has to wash and remake ALL of them. So, leave the used beds unmade, and you will make things a lot easier for them.

MOVE FURNITURE BACK: Sometimes you have to move a piece of furniture. Be sure to move it back. Don’t make the housekeeper move that mattress back up a flight of stairs by herself!

Everyone appreciates your cooperation with these things.

We hope you enjoy Big Bear!

From now till it starts snowing (about mid-late November) it is the “off season”. This is the best time to get some great deals on vacation rentals. Many companies are giving a “buy 2 nights, get a 3rd for free” special, or something similar. It can’t hurt to ask!

Happy Vacationing!

Checking In

Before you leave for that long awaited vacation, be sure to find out the check-in policies of the vacation rental you will be staying in.

You don’t want to arrive at 11 a.m. then find out that check-in is at 3 p.m.

Why so late in the afternoon? Well, houses are a lot bigger than a motel room that can be cleaned in 30 minutes. Some houses can take 3 to 8 hours to clean. And, if people are checking out that morning, they need those hours to clean.

Also, some places let you go directly to the house and give you a code to open the door. Never enter early without making sure it’s ok. Nothing is worse than getting there a little early and thinking “What’s the big deal? We’re only a 1/2 hour early.” So, you open the door and the alarm goes off. Oh, no. Guess who gets to pay the false alarm fee?

Once you actually make it inside the house, be sure to do a thorough damage check, even before you unpack. Then report everything you find to the homeowner or vacation rental company, in writing, if possible. E-mail is fine. If you fail to do this, you could be held liable for damage they later say you caused.

Happy Vacationing!
